Hello there.

My husband and I are looking to rent and live aboard a boat for several months to a year to see how it goes before purchasing a boat of our own. Does anyone have any info on organizations that might offer this in the Southern California area? I've searched the web extensively and haven't found any liveaboard boats for rent. THANK YOU for any information!

I lived for 20 years as a liveaboard in Redondo Beach (near Los Angeles). Slips are dear to find, even more so as a liveaboard. I sold my early boat, boat another was purchased. I lived on the hook, moving around every 2 weeks between Newport Harbor (moorings), Avalon Harbor, Long Beach, free anchoring. I enjoyed it...but it was difficult to get to work. I sailed about 1,200 miles a year moving around. After 2 years, I got back to Redondo Beach...back to the same slip. I'm home! Buy a boat with a slip and a liveaboard if you can by agreement. Wait lists can go for 3 months to several years if you want to live somewhere nice. Go for it!
