Hi Deirdre,

You may want to check out livingaboard.com also...there's alot of information there and everyone seems very nice. Good luck.

What a great site. Thank you so much. I have learned a lot in the past few days, and plan on using this site regularly.

Deirdre,

We are also new boaters looking for a boat to buy. We have found two sites with books on buying a boat. You may find one or both worthwile. We are ordering both of them in order to learn as much as possible. The two sites are:

http://www.boatingwithdawsons.com/

http://www.yachtsurvey.com/

Good luck,

Sorry to disagree with the answers to date and to bust the bubble: DO NOT DO IT... at least not now. You have apparently little to no experience with a boat that size, not to speak of LIVING on a boat. Talk about jumping into the deep end of the pool. To be real honest: based on the info you provided I consider your plan at this point to be immature and potentially hazardous.

My suggestion:

Spend some serious time aboard (check on sailing-forums for crew wanted ads and/or extended cruising), do some serious chartering on boats this size and spend some time around people who live aboard. Do not be fooled by sunset-pics in idyllic coves. Talk to SSCA for instance.

I am not saying you should not go about your dream, but do it in a prudent way.
